House Hunting

Andy and I continued the search for a new home yesterday.  We looked at three houses with our real estate agent.  I’m going to borrow my friend N’s format for blogging about potential houses, since I think it’s a great way to organize my thoughts!

House 1

Location: Moon

Stats: 4br in Whispering Woods
Pros:  Five minutes from work, brick front.
Cons: Family room is not open to the kitchen.  This is a deal breaker for us.  An even bigger deal breaker is the main staircase only having a 6′ clearance!
Verdict: Not an option for us.
House 2
Location: Moon, Hunter’s Run
Stats: 4 br, 2.5 bath, brick front
Pros: Eh
Cons: Nothing special inside, finished basement barely fits a treadmill and a couch.  No deck or patio on the back, which we expect in this price range.  Tiny backyard.
Verdict: Not for us.
House 3
Location: Moon, off of Thorn Run Road
Stats: 4br, 2.5 bath, 1.25 acres (not all useable)
Pros: Less than 10 minutes to work, brick front, bonus office on main floor, good sized family room with fireplace, large eat-in area, bump outs in dining room, gorgeous built-ins around living room fireplace.  Crown molding throughout the house.  The yard is fabulous – fenced, ample decks, brick walkways, stone patio, pergola and fish pond.  All woods behind the house.
Cons: Too high of an asking price!  Basement is not finished, but we could do that ourselves.  Carpet needs replaced throughout the house.  Kitchen will need updates eventually.
Verdict: We will keep this house on our list.  I’m waiting to hear back from our REA what he thinks a reasonable offer would be.  The house has many pros but we’re not sure we’re willing to pay to do the upgrades we would want at the current asking price.

  1. 3 is really nice- love the deck~! Maybe the price will come down!

  2. I like # 3 as well. Perhaps you could get them to come down because of the work that needs put into it? Good luck!
