How far along? 36 weeks
Total weight gain: I was at 147 this morning, so still the same.
Appointments: I had two NST appointments this week, which the baby passed with no problems. I also had an ultrasound to montior the bambino’s growth. He is now in the 72nd percentile at roughly 6lb, 9oz! That is quite a jump from four weeks ago when he was in the 48th percentile and 2lb, 12oz lighter. They say that babies gain about half a pound a week so the extra 12 ounces were probably due to my diabetes.
I’ll have another ultrasound in two weeks and according to various doctors and nurses, they’ll most likely decide to induce around 39 weeks. That’s only 20 days away, people!
The doctor checked this morning and I’m not dilated at all. He said that’s normal for a first time mom at 36 weeks. I told him that my plan was to have a 7lb baby and we had a good laugh over that. Stupid GD! Though I do have to note that the estimated weight is just that – an estimate. There is a large margin of error so you never know!
How big is baby? Your baby is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. He now weighs almost 6 pounds [more like 6lb, 9oz!] (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. He’s shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered his body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected his skin during his nine-month amniotic bath.
Clothing? I’m making do with the maternity clothes I already have, even though that means wearing the same stuff over and over. I’m okay with that.
Sleep? I had one bad night of sleep this week when it was pretty hot in our room, but otherwise I’m hanging in there.
Symptoms? No headaches this week, yay! My legs and feet swell a tiny bit if I’m hot and I don’t have a chance to put them up in the evening. Nothing major though. The B-H have really lessened this week. How ironic is that now that I’m closer to the end? I have them mostly during the night now.
Some of my family saw me yesterday for the first time in a few weeks. They all said my belly made the biggest jump in size so far. I need Andy to take my picture yet, but I feel like the baby might be sitting a little lower. They say you’ll know when they drop because you’ll be able to breathe better and heartburn goes away, but I haven’t had those problems so I can’t tell. The ultrasound tech said that he’s in a good head-down position.
We’re pretty much ready for him to arrive at any time. The only things left on our to-do list are to install the car seat and pack our bag for the hospital. We made a whirlwind trip to three baby stores on Saturday to get everything else we needed. There’s a few items I need to order online and I want to make one last trip to the mall. All of his clothes/blankets/linens are washed and ready to go. We bought an SUV for me this week so he now has two safe vehicles to ride in.
