37 Weeks

How far along? 37 weeks

Total weight gain: I was at 149 this morning.

Appointments: I only had one appointment since last week due to the Memorial Day holiday.  The baby is still doing well.  The doctor said they will definitely induce at 39 weeks because of the insulin, so we’re down to only two weeks!  I am still not dilated at all, but he said I’m 50% effaced!  That means my cervix is thinning out.  It doesn’t mean that the baby will arrive anytime soon, but if I have to be induced it is better to be partially effaced/dilated.  Dr. McN also said, “Wow, he’s really low, wow!”  He said he wouldn’t be surprised if I went into labor on my own before 39 weeks.  (But there is obviously no guarantee of that happening!)

Next week I have another appointment/NST on Monday and an ultrasound on Tuesday.

How big is baby? Your baby is now considered “full term,” even though your due date is three weeks away. If you go into labor now, his lungs will likely be mature enough to fully adjust to life outside the womb. Your baby weighs 6 1/3 pounds and measures a bit over 19 inches, head to heel (like a stalk of Swiss chard). Many babies have a full head of hair at birth, with locks from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long. But don’t be surprised if your baby’s hair isn’t the same color as yours. Dark-haired couples are sometimes thrown for a loop when their children come out as blonds or redheads, and fair-haired couples have been surprised by Elvis look-alikes. And then, of course, some babies sport only peach fuzz.

Clothing? It’s been hot this week so I’ve busted out a few summer strapless dresses to stay comfortable.

Sleep?  It hasn’t been a great week for sleep.  We turned on the A/C this week but I’m still up every hour.  My pelvic area has really started to hurt after I’ve been lying down for a while.  It’s extremely difficult to switch sides or to go to the bathroom.  Sometimes Andy will wake up and give me a push!

Symptoms?  B-H now hurt.  I have them mostly at night but they’ve picked up a little over the past few days.  My belly is so sore, I feel like I’ve been doing ab exercises all day.  On Sunday I started feeling some crampy feelings which have continued ever since.  I’ve had an upset stomach off and on over the past few days and in the late evening I have to drink milk to keep my dinner from coming back up.

The baby is still moving around like crazy.  For several months now he has been in the same position – head down, back toward my left side, butt straight up, and legs kicking on my right side.  The kicks are now quite uncomfortable at times.

I helped Andy plant some plants in the front flower bed this past weekend, but I was really limited on what I could do.  Each week I do less and less!

We installed the car seat and bases in our cars this week.  I was practicing how I would get the seat into mine when I banged my forehead off of the door frame.  Hopefully that doesn’t happen again.
