Tristan’s Birth Story

While we were in the hospital for Tristan’s birth, Andy kept a log of everything happening.  I knew I wouldn’t be able to remember the specifics.  Here it is, pretty much in Andy’s own words.

Thursday, June 16
7:00 pm –  Homemade spaghetti dinner.

10:00 pm – Met the troll posing as a nurse.

10:30 pm – Hooked up baby monitor.

10:45-11:00 pm – Filled out endless paperwork.

10:45 pm – Andy lost in hospital looking for vending machine.

10:50 pm – Showed Candice how to use adjustable bed.

11:10 pm – Located VHS player.

Friday, June 17

12:00 am – Started pitocin.

12:05 am – Andy found 4′ x 4′ bed to sleep on.

2:00 am – Troll showed Andy how to make the bed 4′ x 6′.

5:30 am – 2+ centimeters dilated.

9:30 am – Epidural.

10:00 am – 3 centimeters dilated; water broken.

2:00 pm – 5 centimeters dilated.

3:30 pm – Dave and Debbie stopped by.

4:00 pm – 6 centimeters dilated.

[At around 5:00 pm, a different nurse rushed into the room and started checking the monitors.  She put an oxygen mask on me and made me lie on my right side, then switch to my left.  She then frantically paged a resident.  We had no idea what was going on!  They finally explained that my contractions were happening every minute which wasn’t giving the baby’s heart rate time to recover.  The resident decided to check the progress and suprise, I was 10 centimeters dilated!  Dr. Sword had warned us at 4pm that things could potentially start to move along faster.  He was right!]

5:10 pm – PUSH!

6:17 pm – Tristan David arrives.

7:00 pm – Grandma/Grandpa S & F and Aunt Bonnie visit.

7:46 pm – First attempted breast feeding.

8:00 pm – Grandma Deb and Bonnie hold Tristan.

Saturday, June 19

11:00 am – Uncle Mike and Aunt Kara visit.

2:00 pm – Grandma & Grandpa F visit.

4:00 pm – First poop!

5:30 pm – Filled out social security info.
